The history of successes and failures of great pioneers has nurtured and developed Ivanko into what it is today, and the culmination of that is the Olympic Bar.
■Strength
IVANKO Olympic bars have a PSI value (tensile strength: Pounds/Square Inch), an index of strength, of over 200,000. The higher this value, the harder the steel, but for Olympic bars, flexibility is also important, and it has a major impact on the weight you can lift. IVANKO has created the ideal bar, taking into account both stiffness and flexibility.
■ Surface treatment
There are various anti-rust surface treatments available, such as hard chrome plating, Lubrite, and ceramic coating, but IVANKO Olympic bars are treated with black oxide (black dye). While this treatment offers less rust prevention than the aforementioned treatments, the coating is extremely thin at 1-2μm, providing a grip similar to that of a naked bar. Furthermore, this treatment was chosen in consideration of the hydrogen embrittlement that occurs with plating and the adverse effects of high-temperature heat treatment on material strength.
■Sleeve
Because IVANKO's Olympic bars are designed for powerlifting, the sleeves do not use needle bearings but instead use brass bushings to create just the right amount of rotational resistance. The shaft and sleeves are machined with extremely high precision to minimize play. Furthermore, the sleeve surface has fine grooves to prevent plates from slipping.
■ Knurling
The knurling process requires highly skilled techniques as it generates localized stresses that can weaken the bar. IVANKO knurls evenly and precisely to ensure the best grip and comfort while preventing any loss of strength.
■Linearity
The steel used to make bars is not necessarily perfectly straight. There may be slight bends or twists. At IVANKO, we straighten these bends and remove twists to create perfectly straight bars. Processing a material with a hardness of 200,000 PSI is an extremely difficult and expensive technique, but as a result, while a 2.2m bar is generally considered straight when its curvature is 2.26mm or less, IVANKO has achieved an extremely excellent straightness of 0.25mm.
The quality of IVANKO's barbells is proven by the numerous achievements they have made in fitness clubs around the world, as well as the tradition and history of IVANKO.
